In case you haven’t heard yet, I’m thrilled to let you know that Jan 28th is the release date for my next book, THE BAD BRIDESMAID, and I think I’m even more excited about sharing this book with you than I was about THE OTHER BRIDGET.
My publisher and I have planned ALL sorts of exciting things for this release, some of which I share with you below and others which you’ll have to wait a little longer for!
You’ve seen the Aussie/NZ cover above to be published with the fabulous Penguin Random House and here’s the cover from Bloodhound books to be published on the same day in the UK and the US.
Which is your favourite cover? I love them both in different ways!
So what is THE BAD BRIDESMAID about? Very good question indeed. When I wrote THE OTHER BRIDGET, I fell in love with Fred, Bridget’s best friend, but was never planning on writing her story until the edits when something my publisher said, sparked a whole new story idea. If you’ve read THE OTHER BRIDGET, you’ll know Bridget is a lover of love, she is obsessed with rom-coms and romance novels, believes in the The One and that everyone deserves a Happy Ever After. I went out of my way for this friendship to be a case of opposites attract - Bridget loves love and dreams of marriage, Fred has sworn to staying single and unattached (while still having a lot of fun with the opposite sex).
When editing THE OTHER BRIDGET, my publisher said she saw what I was trying to do with Fred but she sometimes came across as a bit TOO prickly and almost unlikeable, was there anything I could do to soften her? One of the things I did was add this line: Bridget had only seen Fred cry twice. Once when her cat died and once when her mum announced she was getting married for the fifth time.
Suddenly I KNEW why Fred was the way she was and I thought how HUGE it would be for her if her Mum is now getting married for the SIXTH time. That was the initial spark of the idea and then I remembered one of my fave movies from when I was a child, The (original) Parent Trap. I’m assuming you’ve watched it or know the plot, but just in case it’s about identical twins who don’t know the other exists until they run into each other at summer camp. They discover their parents divorced when they were babies, each taking one child and never seeing each other OR the other child again. The twins come up with a crazy plan to switch places, force their parents to meet again and then make them fall in love and remarry so the twins will never be separated again.
I’m calling THE BAD BRIDESMAID a reverse Parent Trap for grown-ups ( it’s a little bit spicy in parts) because Fred meets the groom’s hot son, Leo, and realises he too thinks this wedding is a terrible idea. They come up with Operation Break-Up and band together to try and stop the wedding going ahead.
To find out if they succeed, you’ll have to read the book!

The countdown is on until THE BAD BRIDESMAID hits shelves and I’ll be doing events in Perth, Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and MANY towns in South Australia to celebrate. See below to see if there’s an event near you and if not, never fear, because I’ll be visiting more states later in the year for the release of THE LUCKY SISTERS (that’s if I finish it in time - pray for me)!

Me at Penguin Random House plotting publicity with the team in September; me with some Perth booksellers enjoying a BAD BRIDESMAID dinner and me trying to get Addie as excited as I am!

Fantastic! Was lucky enough to read an advance copy on Net Galley and loved it. Have just booked to see you in Clare.
Hooray! Exciting times. Love both covers but the UK/US is especially sassy! xx
