Something exciting happened yesterday...
And no, it's not a new book release (but one is coming VERY soon).
A while ago I confessed how I love reading more than I love writing, and another thing I REALLY love to do is TALK. Almost ALL of my school reports said something along the lines of ‘Rachael talks too much in class and although she still manages to succeed, this can be distracting for other students’.
Whoops! Sorry to anyone I distracted with my nattering in school - I hope you’ve recovered and are living your best lives now!
For almost eight years, I’ve been combining these two passions in the Rachael Johns Book Club - building a community of book lovers with my friend and fellow author, Anthea Hodgson. Our incredible club has grown to nearly 7,000 members, and we’ve had SO much fun discussing books that we decided to launch a podcast so we can chat books EVEN more (and pretend it’s work).
Enter READING BETWEEN DEADLINES, which launched YESTERDAY - you can listen to our podcast here or on your favourite poddy platform.
We’ll be releasing two episodes each month:
On the 14th – Anthea and I will dive into a book that’s creating a buzz. We’ll discuss it from both a reader's and writer's perspective, exploring what makes the book a global bestseller and whether we think it truly lived up to the hype.
On the 28th – Anthea and I will sit down with the author of the Rachael Johns’ Book Club pick for the month. You’ll hear all about their writing process, what inspires them, their latest book, and we’ll also ask them about their reading habits and fave books.
Our January buzz book is ALL FOURS by Miranda July and we had a wild time discussing whether we thought it was worthy of kissing, marrying or killing. Spoiler -we disagreed.
Our interview this month is with Jacqueline Bublitz, author of LEAVE THE GIRLS BEHIND and we could have chatted all night with her. I think Jacqueline and I might actually be the same person - we discovered SO many things in common during this pod - we both love musical theatre, HATE spiders and are Aquarians, and that’s just the beginning. Jacqueline also gave us a tonne of fabulous bookish recommendations.
I’ve honestly had a ball recording the first two episodes and I hope that you enjoy listening to them just as much!
Happy listening, book besties,
Rach!
PS. Two weeks today until my next book, THE BAD BRIDESMAID, releases.

See you there!
Not sure if you know about Leigh Sales and Annabel Crabb’s C10L3 podcast where they chat books too - but not to authors like you do - but they also (somehow) have their pod on You Tube as well (and you can also earn from YT). Are you going to put yours up there too for the visual people like me!!? Might pay to have a Facebook group too called Reading Between Deadlines! (And nab it before someone else does). I know FB can be a pain with the ads and the Zucky factor etc but well.. it is a good way to reach large numbers!! 🥰 📚📖
Hooray! Congrats to you both, this sounds like so much fun. I recently read ALL FOURS so will be sure to listen for your thoughts! xx
